

Guna Yala: Travelling with our Ancestors
Guna Yala, which means “Land of the Guna,” was Panama’s first semi-autonomous comarca, established in 1938. The Guna Yala archipelago is world-renowned for its stunning Caribbean islands and beaches. The Guna people are known for their fierce independence and their mola textiles.
Activities and Experiences
- Learn about Kuna history and culture
- Visit three islands within the archipelago and snorkel in the pristine Caribbean Sea
- Learn about and participate in the design and production of molas (textiles) and winis (beaded jewelry)
- Visit a local community Chief at the Congress House
- Try on traditional (female) Kuna clothing
- Visit a local elementary school to meet the students
- Learn some of the Kuna and Spanish languages
- Total Duration: Approximately 8-10 hours, including transport. Overnight options also available.
- Location: Two-hour drive from Panama City, followed by a 30-minute boat ride.
